Maidstone, Saskatchewan – On the evening of May 30th, members with the Saskatchewan Roving Traffic Unit were working in the Maidstone area when a traffic stop was initiated for a vehicle for traveling past a marked police vehicle in excess of 60km/hr when the police vehicle emergency lights were activated.
During the traffic stop interaction, the officer made several observations that led to the driver 25-year-old driver, Michael WARDROP from Cold Lake, Alberta, to be detained for a drug investigation.
A Police Service Dog was deployed and indicated for the presence of a controlled substance leading to WARDROP’s arrest. Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of approximately 100 grams of cocaine, brass knuckles, $8,000 in Canadian currency, several pills suspected to contain fentanyl, and a loaded semi-automatic pistol in the vehicle.
WARDROP is currently in custody with a next appearance date of June 3, 2019 at Lloydminster Provincial Court to speak to the following charges:
Possession for the purpose of trafficking
Possession of Property obtained by Crime over $5000
Unauthorized possession of a firearm
Unsafe storage of Firearms
Carry a Concealed Weapon
Possession of a Weapon for a dangerous purpose
Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
